Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has refuted rumors regarding his visit to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. He dismissed these speculations as either a result of miscommunication or deliberate mischief.
Shah emphasized that he has not agreed to any such visit and will not be undertaking the trip. In an interview with News18 CricketNext, he stated, “I have not agreed to anything. This is simply a case of miscommunication, possibly done deliberately or mischievously. I will not be making any visit.”
Yesterday, Zaka Ashraf, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) interim management committee, met Shah during an International Cricket Council meeting in Durban, South Africa. Media reports suggested that Ashraf had extended an invitation to Shah to attend the Asia Cup matches in Pakistan, which Shah reportedly accepted.
“Pakistani people know how to welcome and take care of their guests. This is a good start. We will have more such meetings in the future,” Ashraf was quoted as saying.
However, Arun Dhumal, the Chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), clarified that although the meeting did occur, its sole focus was finalizing the schedule for the tournament. There were no discussions regarding India’s visit to Pakistan.
“There was no such discussion held. Neither India is traveling to Pakistan nor will our secretary be traveling, contrary to the reports that have surfaced. Only the schedule was finalized,” Dhumal added.
